Raven Returns (Natural History)
A tree grows outward, fed by light.

What could be said
of that green awareness?

Does it begin and end
as a pattern for surfaces?

A ripple for still water?

Sheltered in shadow
between leaf and bough

raven croaks three times
and unfolds to the wind.

Other lives are other worlds.

Noah releases raven
to the promised land.

Knowledge never comes.
