Canopy of Broken Light
In the shade of an acacia
in mottled evening,
she draws you into
the casual splay
of her embrace. She seeks
the ease in your reply
you without regard
you without reservation.

She is the question
to your response
the vitality to your flesh
the forgotten pulse
the gift of form
persuaded from the earth
as canopies of broken light
persuade the leopardess.

And for what
would you have desired?
Is she not desirous?
She persuades without intent.
She is the whole of it
your canopy
your broken light.
